When our grandchildren are growing up in this world, just a scratch can contaminate them and grow into a major spiritual battle. Our younger grandchildren face temptations of lying, cheating, disobedience to parents, etc. Our teenage and young adult grandchildren need protection, as they tend to push the boundaries of a godly lifestyle. The devil is deceptive and he tries to distract them from walking with the Lord.
I often hear grandparents talking about their concern for their grandchildren growing up in our troubled world and the morally depraved culture they are inheriting. As grandparents, we cannot protect our grandchildren in school and their various activities.
However, we can pray our grandchildren will:
- Invite Jesus Christ into their heart and experience the adventure of a full, purposeful, and fruitful life.
- Guard their hearts and be aware of God’s presence with them.
- Recognize the deception and evil in this world.
- Be strong in their faith so they can resist the enemy.
- See themselves as God sees them full of promise, possibility, and potential.
We can also ask God to:
- Shower our grandchildren with blessings that exceed our dreams.
- Place a hedge of protection over our children and grandchildren physically, emotionally and spiritually each day.
I really enjoyed reading this article as a grandparent. Our grand children are a gift from God and rather they are biological grand children or not we are to love them the same. In our world today as a grandparent we are facing the battle of our own children as non believers raising there children to not know the Lord. We are to respect our grand children’s parents even when it goes against what we believe. But we still have the opportunity to plant those seeds within our grandchildren by conducting ourselves with a Christ like heart.
Our continued prayers for our grandchildren and even there parents are so important. It may not be in our time that they come to know Christ but we must believe and have faith that it will happen. Just because your grandchildren may not be showing examples or desires of knowing Christ doesn’t mean God isn’t working within them. Consistent righteous living makes the greatest impact of all teaching methods.
Proverbs 17:6-Children’s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children.
